Facts for Kids:
When I was a kid, I liked to  hang around with my friends, often up in trees. In the Bronx (where VanCortlandt Park, full of rocks to climb and places to hide, was right across the  street) there were chipmunks, daddy longlegs spiders, and an occasional garter snake to keep us company. One day I found a very nice pocket knife in the grass. My mom had been a country girl, and she let me keep it. That was a triumph! I took it everywhere.

Indoors, I kept my nose in a book, unless I was writing one of my own, or drawing crazy pictures for it. I know they were crazy, because my mother saved the evidence. Looking back, I wonder, “Why would a four-year old draw a princess holding an alligator on a leash?” I can’t answer that question, but that was me, Eva the Wild Girl!
